Missouri native Jeff Black is best known as a songwriter whose work has been covered by Alison Krauss, Waylon Jennings, Sam Bush and others. In 1994, Nashville’s Blackhawk band scored a Top 10 single with Black’s “That’s Just About Right.” He has also earned a following for his intimate, honest live shows. Friday night, Black brings his songs to The Cary Theater for a show which also features Raleigh resident Katelyn Read, who recently appeared on NBC’s “The Voice.” Tickets are $10-$25. ▪ Laurelyn Dossett , the Greensboro singer songwriter who composed “Anna Lee” for Levon Helm and “Leaving Eden” for the Carolina Chocolate Drops, will perform Wednesday at Duke’s Music in the Gardens series.
