With their third, eponymous CD, the Boston-bred group Della Mae continues to delight with the instrumental flash and delicious harmonies that brought them a Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album with “This World Oft Can Be” in 2013. The all-female quintet is also versed in songwriting, and the new CD features the originals “Rude Awakening,” “For the Sake of My Heart” and the labor lament, “Boston Town.” The video for “Boston Town” looks back (possibly to the ’60s), flashing a “Stop the Draft” protest button and protesting the drudgery of working-class life in the mills. Covers of the Rolling Stones’ “No Expectations” and Low Anthem’s “To Ohio” showcase the band’s versatility.
All this and more will grace the stage when Della Mae plays Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro on Wednesday. Get details at catscradle.com.
