For almost half a century, “A Love Supreme” has stood as the crowning achievement not just for saxophone giant (and North Carolina native) John Coltrane, but all of hard-bop jazz. And if any act is up to the monumental task of climbing that mountain and putting a unique spin on the music, it’s the Campbell Brothers, a sacred-steel trio that is one of the greatest stars in the field of steel-guitar gospel. In a Duke Performances event, Campbell Brothers will play “A Love Supreme” Friday to kick off the Bull Durham Blues Festival at Durham’s Hayti Heritage Center. Megafaun’s Phil Cook will team up with Piedmont blues institution John Dee Holeman to open the show at 6 p.m., and tickets are $35-$40 ($10 for Duke students).
