New Year’s Eve on Wednesday brings a temporary break from the live-music dead zone of the holidays, highlighted this year by the Avett Brothers playing their first Raleigh show in four-plus years at PNC Arena. Plenty is going on in local clubs that night, too, including the reunited Sex Police playing Carrboro’s Cat’s Cradle; Big Something with Big Daddy Love at Raleigh’s Lincoln Theatre; The Old Ceremony with Skylar Gudasz at Chapel Hill’s Local 506; and most of all, kings of Raleigh hardcore Corrosion of Conformity at Raleigh’s Pour House with Demon Eye and Bedowyn. As New Year’s Eve fare goes, how could COC and champagne not be just as cool as all get-out? Cover is $20-$25; see thepourhousemusichall.com for details.
