So maybe you’re thinking of fleeing these earthly environs and hopping a spaceship for a galaxy far, far away. Since it’s going to take awhile to get there, you’ll need tunes for the trip. May I suggest “Sunswimmer” (Normaltown/New West Records), the upcoming second album from Athens psych-rock quartet New Madrid? The album’s seven songs seem like the perfect sonic accompaniment for a spin through the astral plane, balancing hooks and sprawling jams and crystalline atmosphere – or lack thereof, this being space and all. “Sunswimmer” won’t actually hit stores until later this month, but you can get an advance live listen Tuesday night when New Madrid headlines at Neptunes in Raleigh. Showtime is 9 p.m. and it’s cheap – a suggested donation of just $5. See kingsbarcade.com for details.
