Among the cooler seasonal traditions we have in local music is bluegrass band Chatham County Line’s “Electric Holiday Tour,” a long-running annual affair that reunites them with various friends from over the years. The 2016 model finds the quartet catching up onstage with Tift Merrit’s old rhythm section of drummer Zeke Hutchins and bassist/Tonk frontman Jay Brown, plus Hutchins’ long-ago Queen Sarah Saturday bandmate Johnny Irion. And it plays Saturday night at Saxapahaw’s Haw River Ballroom.
Showtime is 8 p.m. and tickets are $20-$22. For details, see hawriverballroom.com.
- Other holiday-themed shows this week include Saturday’s Barefoot Movement Christmas at Carrboro ArtsCenter, Delta Rae’s holiday-celebration winter acoustic tour at Raleigh’s Lincoln Theatre Sunday and Mannheim Steamroller Tuesday at Durham Performing Arts Center.
- Saturday also brings Yarn and Dune Dogs to the Lincoln, the “Band Lottery” of mixed-and-matched local acts to Chapel Hill’s Local 506 and a super-group featuring jazz guitarist Rez Abbasi with pianist (and MacArthur Fellow) Vijay Iyer to Baldwin Auditorium for a Duke Performances show.
- And the Connells play a hurricane-relief benefit Sunday at Kings in Raleigh, with The Whom, Cinnamon Girls and Backsliders main man Chip Robinson.
