Today is a waiting game across the Triangle and North Carolina, as students and parents watch the snow fall and await news about whether or not schools will reopen this week.

We’re here to help you while away the time, at least as long as you still have power. Here is the “Waiting for School Closure Announcements” mini-playlist – with listening suggestions to accommodate the (possibly contradictory) desires of both students and parents.

For students

Carly Simon, “Anticipation”

Anticipation, anticipation/Is makin’ me late/Is keepin’ me waitin’…

It’s not just for ketchup commercials anymore.

Tom Petty, “The Waiting”

The waiting is the hardest part/Every day you see one more card/You take it on faith, you take it to the heart/The waiting is the hardest part.

Ain’t that the truth.

Nu Shooz, “I Can’t Wait”

Hey baby, tell me what is on your mind/’Cause I can’t wait (baby I can’t wait) till you call me on the telephone.

Just the right song for awaiting that “important announcement” robocall from Wake County Public Schools.

Parents, we got you

Gnarls Barkley, “Crazy”

I remember when/I remember, I remember when I lost my mind/There was something so pleasant about that place.

There is no better evocation of cabin fever…

The Skeletons, “Waiting for My Gin to Hit Me”

Sitting on the floor, Indian-style/Waiting for my gin to hit me.

…Even if it just might drive you to drink. But have courage. Eventually, the snow will recede and things will return to normal.
