Seasonal merriment prevails this time of year, so let’s just go with that.
Key holiday-themed shows happening over the next week leading up to Christmas include the Dune Dogs’ annual holiday bash Saturday at Raleigh’s Lincoln Theatre, with Yarn also on the bill; Chatham County Line’s “Electric Holiday Tour” Saturday at Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw, with guests including Johnny Irion, Jay Brown and Zeke Hutchins; Irish-American supergroup Cherish the Ladies’ “Celtic Christmas” Sunday at Durham’s Carolina Theatre; Big Fat Gap’s “15th Holiday Homecoming” is Monday at the Back Room of Carrboro’s Cat’s Cradle; and in a true long-running institution, Red Clay Ramblers alumnus Jim Watson plays his annual “Christmas at The Cave” show Tuesday in Chapel Hill, now in its 30th year.
- Good chance there will be no actual Christmas music involved, but Bitter Resolve, Pipe, Dynamite Brothers and others play a Toys4Tots benefit show Friday at Chapel Hill’s Local 506. Also Friday, Wyatt Easterling and Laurelyn Dossett play the main Cat’s Cradle, Lincoln Theatre has Rebel Son, and Sarah Borges teams up with Amy Black for “A Muscle Shoals Musical Revue” of soul at Durham’s Motorco Music Hall.
- Saturday brings Bombadil to the Cradle, and Red Collar’s first local show in about two years (and first with the original lineup since 2009!) to the Cradle Back Room with Temperance League and Hammer No More the Fingers also on the bill.
