Cranky laughs with Lewis Black at DPAC
The depths of January are a time when everyone’s crankiness is turned up to 11, which makes it the perfect season to enjoy the comedic stylings of Lewis Black. The UNC-Chapel Hill alumnus is hardly the last angry man – he’s got way too much company for that, especially when it comes to politics – but he is certainly more sensible (not to mention funnier) than most. And he’s coming to Durham Performing Arts Center on Friday with a show billed as “The Emperor’s New Clothes: The Naked Truth Tour.” Showtime is 8 p.m. and tickets are $40-$75 (plus fees and taxes). See dpacnc.com for details.
- Friday also brings mandolin demigod Ricky Skaggs to Saxapahaw’s Haw River Ballroom, and Milagro Saints toshowing off their new album “TUPELO” with a hometown show at Raleigh’s Pour House.
- Creed’s Scott Stapp plays a solo show Monday at Carrboro’s Cat’s Cradle.
- Wednesday is a Texas-heavy night, between funny-man singer-songwriter Robert Earl Keen at Haw River and pianist Marcia Ball at Durham’s Motorco Music Hall – which has Americana band Yarn on Thursday.
