Beyonce show: very fine, but not fined

In the wake of Beyonce’s Raleigh concert last week, rumor had it that she got hit with a hefty fine. But don’t believe it.

Tuesday night’s show was interrupted around 10 p.m. when authorities ordered Carter-Finley Stadium cleared because of lightning in the area. Following a delay of more than an hour for the storm to pass, the performance resumed after the usual 11 p.m. end time and wrapped up around midnight.

Afterward, reports going around both social media and the blogosphere claimed that Beyonce had to cough up $60,000 in fines for going late. And while the singer certainly deserves a lot of credit for her show-must-go-on spirit, word from both NC State University and the police department is that no fines were levied.

“That is indeed a persistent rumor,” said Raleigh Police Department spokesman Jim Sughrue. “But it has no basis in fact.”
