Any event benefiting the Be Loud! Sophie Foundation, which supports teen and young adult cancer patients, has a lot of inherent worth. But this year’s model is impressive beyond the cause, with a 13-act lineup featuring 1980s hitmakers English Beat, Greg Humphreys’ sunny funk-pop-soul band Hobex, dB’s co-founder Chris Stamey’s jazz-torch project Occasional Shivers, local supergroup Preeesh! and lots more.
It’s Friday and Saturday at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro and tickets are $25 per night, or $45 for a two-night pass. See catscradle.com for details.
Other highlights
- Speaking of the wayback machine, Saturday brings still-at-it 1990s hitmakers the Goo Goo Dolls to Raleigh’s Red Hat Amphitheater with Collective Soul; rapper Biz Markie to the Ritz in Raleigh; the reconstituted Milemarker to the Cradle Back Room; and AC/DC to Greensboro Coliseum (rescheduled from the original March 14 date).
- Grunge overlords the Melvins play the Cradle Thursday. And this year’s final Oak City 7 show features Soul Psychedelique celebrating the music of Prince, Thursday at downtown Raleigh’s City Plaza.
