Raleigh’s newest craft beer bar will open next month with 100 flowing taps of American microbrews.
Colorado-based Growler USA will open its Raleigh location on Blount Street Monday, Feb. 5., too late to stock any Super Bowl parties, but in time to be the bar with the most taps in the heart of downtown Raleigh.
The location plans to carry many of the local and regional breweries in and around our beer-drenched state, as well as major craft beers from around the country, a macro collection of microbrews. The company has more than a dozen franchises open coast to coast, including three others in the Charlotte area.
Growler USA, named for the large glass jugs made to take draft beer home, will have seating for 100 inside its Blount Street pub, plus an outdoor patio with room for another 20. For food, it plans to serve sandwiches, burgers and pub snacks. It will sell growler fills of most beers and also serve draft wine, cider and kombucha. All servers will be Cicerone-certified, according to a news release, which is the entry-level qualification of the beer-world’s equivalent to wine’s sommelier.
While the pub represents a rare move for a chain into downtown Raleigh, the franchise is owned by local couple Amrish Raj and Sunita McCoy. Each location writes its own beer menu, and a live taplist can be seen online.
“We are thrilled to be bringing this unique concept to the Raleigh community and look forward to inviting the community in to support neighborhood local breweries,” Raj said in a release.
The Raleigh Growler USA is at 314 S. Blount St. across from City Market and will be open seven days a week.
