Shrek the Halls (8 p.m., ABC) – Shrek, Fiona and the kids try to celebrate the holidays as a family, but visits by Donkey, Puss in Boots and other friends make their Christmas chaotic.

One Direction: The TV Special (8 p.m., NBC) – As the title suggests, the band One Direction has a TV special.

The Year: 2014 (9 p.m., ABC)Robin Roberts anchors a retrospective of the biggest stories of 2014, featuring unrest in Ferguson, Mo., the Ebola virus and the fight against ISIS. But fear not, there’s also plenty of celebrity news, including the wedding of George Clooney.

Secrets of the Arsenal (9 p.m., American Heroes) – Historical artifacts featured tonight include a hastily written note recording General Custer’s last moments; a battle-worn flag that is the symbol of betrayal; and a submarine sent to destroy a train.

Benched (10 p.m., USA) – Back-to-back episodes have Nina discovering the D.A.’s plans to arrest the city’s homeless, and at 10:30, Nina’s old friend asks to be fixed up with Phil.
