What to Watch on Friday: ‘Unfortunate Events’ on Netflix

A Series of Unfortunate Events (Netflix) – Based on the best-selling books by Lemony Snicket and starring Neil Patrick Harris, this original 8-episode series recounts the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans – Violet, Klaus, and Sunny – whose evil guardian Count Olaf will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance. The siblings must outsmart Olaf at every turn, foiling his many devious plans and disguises, in order to discover clues to their parents’ mysterious death. Also stars Patrick Warburton (Lemony Snicket), Joan Cusack (Justice Strauss), Malina Weissman (Violet Baudelaire) and Louis Hynes (Klaus Baudelaire).

Emerald City (9 p.m., NBC) - Dorothy and Lucas find out that the Wizard’s guards are coming to kill her.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (9 p.m., CW) - Rebecca sees her rabbi at a family bar mitzvah and realizes she still has a long way to go on her search for happiness.

Paranormal Lockdown (9 p.m., TLC) - Nick and Katrina explore Waverly Hills Sanatorium, one of the most haunted sites in the world.

Blue Bloods (10 p.m., CBS) - Danny takes a side job as a bodyguard for an ex-con who took the fall for someone else.
