Fox has one very important role to fill for its upcoming live musical TV production of “A Christmas Story,” and you could have a shot at it (Red Ryder BB Gun pun intended).

And by “you,” what we really mean is boys aged 9 to 12, since the part they’re filling is the lead role: Ralphie Parker. A partial description of what they’re looking for: “possibly a bit pudgy, a regular kid – cute but not handsome, winsome but not precious.” He should also be able to sing and dance and anchor a three-hour live TV show.

In the 1983 movie, which has reached cult-classic status, nine-year-old Ralphie’s dream is to get a Red Ryder Range Model Carbine Action BB Gun for Christmas – even though he’s been told multiple times that he’ll only shoot his eye out.

The casting call is open nationwide and submissions must be submitted digitally via castittalent.com/A_Christmas_Story. All of the details are on that site. The submission should be a video of performances of original songs from the movie: “Red Ryder BB Gun” and “Before the Old Man.”

Maya Rudolph (“Saturday Night Live,” “Bridesmaids”) has been cast as Ralphie’s mother.

Don’t drag your feet though, because auditions end at 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

“A Christmas Story: The Musical” will air at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17 on Fox.
