Fans of “The Wire” and “Treme” are no doubt amped for David Simon’s newest HBO drama, “The Deuce.”

The new series, which stars James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal, is a look at porn and sex trade in New York City’s Time Square during the 1970s. Simon gets the details right – no surprise there – devoting nearly equal screen time to his sex workers, pimps, mobsters and police. The result is a story so seedy and gritty that you may feel like a shower after watching.

Franco plays twin brothers – one is Vincent, a bartender with a wife and kids, the other is a gambler with mob debts). Gyllenhaal plays a “veteran hooker.”

The official series premiere is September 10, but HBO already has the first episode available for those who can’t wait – just go to HBO NOW, HBO GO or HBO On Demand.
