Game of Thrones (9 p.m., HBO)Kit Harington, the actor who plays Jon Snow on HBO’s hit fantasy drama “Game of Thrones,” recently told USA Today that viewers will see “some of the most horrible things and darkest places” in the upcoming fifth season. That’s saying quite a lot for a show known for getting seriously dark and violent on a regular basis. When the new season starts tonight, Jon will be caught between two kings after Lord Varys (Conleth Hill) reveals a conspiracy to Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage). Meanwhile, other Lannisters – Cersei (Lena Headey) and Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) – must adjust to a world without brother Tyrion, who has fled Westeros for Essos. The show also adds a bunch of new characters this season, including the brother of slain Prince Oberyn as well as Oberyn’s three daughters (known as the The Sand Snakes).
