The Island (10 p.m., NBC) – This new “man vs. nature” reality series – and when they say “man,” that’s exactly what they mean – puts 14 men on a deserted island with no supplies. The show hopes to distinguish itself from all the others of this ilk by skipping the competitions, games and eliminations (and the women!), and focusing on which Real Man Who Has Something To Prove can survive. Hosted by Bear Grylls.

Also on tonight . . ..

American Ninja Warrior (8 p.m., NBC) – The seventh season begins with former pro football player Brendon Ayanbadejo and Seattle Seahawks punter Jon Ryan tackling the obstacle course with other competitors.

Baghdad ER (8 p.m., HBO) – A repeat airing of the 2006 documentary about the medical staff of the 86th Combat Support Hospital in Iraq, which worked to save wounded soldiers.

The Homefront (9 p.m., UNC-TV) – A two-hour special featuring portraits of America’s military families showing their pride, patriotism and sacrifice.

Texas Rising (9 p.m., History) – The premiere of a new series about the history of Texas recounts the brutal defeat at the Alamo and the battle for revenge against Santa Anna’s troops.

TURN: Washington’s Spies (10 p.m., AMC) – Caleb sails into New York Harbor, and France makes an alliance with the American Patriots.
