What to Watch on Friday: Caesar and Giddens at the White House

The Gospel Tradition (9:30 p.m., UNC-TV) – This “In Performance at the White House” show looks at the role gospel music has played in the American musical tradition. Performers include Aretha Franklin, Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris, Darlene Love, Durham native Shirley Caesar and Greensboro native Rhiannon Giddens, a founding member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops. A 2011 repeat featuring country music airs at 10:30.

Best Friends Whenever (10 p.m., Disney) – A new series about two teenaged best friends who gain the power to travel back and forth in time. The two must decide whether they should focus on fixing mistakes in the past or gain glimpses of the future. In the first episode, they work on Shelby’s plans to ask a boy to the school dance.

Dark Matter (10 p.m., Syfy) – The ship mysteriously veers off course and the crew suspects sabotage.

Tanked (10 p.m., Animal Planet) Jeff Dunham is the latest celebrity to get an extravagant fish tank set-up from Wayde and Brett.
