Extant (10 p.m., CBS) – “Extant” gets a bit of a reboot for the second season, with CBS promising “more action” (as well as more romance and more sex) this time around. For one thing, they’ve added the hunky Jeffrey Dean Morgan as a cop who will help Molly (Halle Berry) solve some of the mysteries in the show. In the premiere episode, Molly escapes from a psychiatric hospital to investigate bizarre deaths that mirror those she saw while in space, and she meets JD Richter (Morgan).

Also on tonight . . .

Operation Wild (8 p.m., UNC-TV) – Stories include: vets in China who keep baby pandas alive; an operation in Cameroon that could transform the life of Shufai the gorilla; and an elephant in Laos with a gunshot wound who gets an x-ray at a human hospital.

Monster in My Family (9 p.m., Lifetime Movie Network) – The start of a new series in which family members of notorious killers speak out. Tonight, the daughter of serial killer Keith Hunter (the Happy Face Killer) tells her story and meets a family member of one of her father’s victims.

Car Matchmaker (9 p.m., Esquire) – Tonight, Spike helps Rolling Stones bassist Darryl Jones find his perfect car.

Mr. Robot (10 p.m., USA) – In the second episode of this interesting new series, Eliot is torn between a job offer from Evil Corp. and joining fsociety – and his decision could harm people around him.

Flipping Out (10 p.m., Bravo) – In the Season 8 premiere, Jeff has fired some of his employees and gives more work to his remaining employees than they can handle (aka “The Corporate American Way!”). But everything blows up in his face, leading to one of Jeff’s biggest meltdowns of all time – and that’s saying quite a lot.
