Shark Week (8 p.m., Discovery) – If we must have a Shark Week (and we must), it’s much better to have it here on TV than in the actual North Carolina coastal waters. Things start tonight with “Shark Trek,” in which scientists discuss why Great White sightings are on the rise in Florida. There’s fascinating shark stuff all week long, so park it on the sofa and experience sharks the way God intended – not in person.

Also on . . .

Poldark (9 p.m., UNC-TV) – Poldark faces one turning point with Elizabeth and another with Demelza.

The Last Ship (9 p.m., TNT) – The crew of the Nathan James makes a discovery and Chandler sees an opportunity to add another ship to the fleet. Also, Chandler and his team encounter an unexpected enemy.
