What to Watch on Saturday: Miley Cyrus hosts ‘SNL’ season opener

Saturday Night Live (NBC) –The 3-hour primetime prelude to the show’s 41st season premiere includes the 2-hour special “Live From New York!” at 8 p.m., which aired earlier this year and commemorated the show’s 40th anniversary. At 10, the very first SNL from Oct. 11, 1975. That debut featured Chevy Chase, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, Garrett Morris, Jane Curtin and Laraine Newman, and was hosted by George Carlin. The new season of SNL kicks off at 11:35 p.m. with host and musical performer Miley Cyrus.

The Unauthorized Beverly Hills 90210 Story (8 p.m., Lifetime) – A movie recounting the secrets of the TV show “Beverly Hills 90210,” including the drama between cast, crew and creators. A “Beyond the Headlines” special at 10 features footage and interviews.

Doctor Who (9 p.m., BBC America) – A black space ship is recovered from a lake bed, empty … except for deadly ghosts!?

Austin City Limits (Midnight, UNC-TV) – The 2015 ACL Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony honors Loretta Lynn, Asleep at the Wheel, and Guy Clark. Scheduled performances by Lyle Lovett, Vince Gill, Patty Loveless, Jason Isbell, Gillian Welch, Laura Marling, Asleep at the Wheel and more.
