What to Watch on Wednesday: James Taylor at Rock Center Christmas

Christmas in Rockefeller Center (8 p.m., NBC) – The 83rd annual tree-lighting ceremony in New York is hosted by the gang from the “Today” show, with performances by James Taylor, Mary J. Blige, Carly Rae Jepsen, The Band Perry and others.

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (9 p.m., NBC) – Boris Karloff narrates this 1966 animated story about a lonely, heartless creature who seeks to destroy Christmas for the people of Whoville.

Empire (9 p.m., Fox) – Cookie plans a concert at the prison where she was incarcerated for 17 years.

Blackish (9:30 p.m., ABC) – Bow thinks Dre’s visiting his childhood friend is taking advantage of his generosity.

Nashville (10 p.m., ABC) – Luke tries to fix things with Colt.

Top Chef (10 p.m., Bravo) – Seventeen chefs converge in Los Angeles for the Season 13 premiere, and must make dishes for a group of food critics and reporters.
