What to Watch on Wednesday: ‘Elf’ musical, ‘Survivor’ finale

Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas (8 p.m., NBC) – In this animated special, based on the movie and Broadway musical “Elf,” Santa tells the story of Buddy’s trip to New York to meet the father he never knew.

Survivor (8 p.m., CBS) – CBS says a first for the show happens doing a shocking tribal council, as three finalists battle for the $1 million prize in tonight’s finale. A reunion special airs at 10.

Childhood’s End (8 p.m., Syfy) – In the final episode of this limited series, children begin to exhibit advanced abilities, leaving the future of humanity in question.

American Horror Story: Hotel (10 p.m., FX) – Alex enlists John’s help in containing an outbreak, and Donovan learns The Countess’ true intentions.
