Preacher (10 p.m., AMC) – This new drama with darkly comic overtones is based on Garth Ennis’ ’90s comic book franchise of the same name. Dominic Cooper plays Jesse Custer, a troubled man who returns to his West Texas hometown to take up his father’s line of work as a minister. But Jesse is struck by some strange force that gives him special powers (don’t worry, this is not a superhero story), prompting him, his ex-girlfriend and an Irish vampire to go off in search of God. The series is executive produced by Sam Catlin, Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg.
