What to Watch on Tuesday: ‘Atlanta’ and ‘Queen Sugar’ are new

Atlanta (10 p.m., FX) – We get two episodes in this premiere of Donald Glover’s exceptional new series about a young Atlanta rapper (Brian Tyree Henry) and his cousin (Glover), who wants to manage his career. The series is primarily from the point of view of Earnest “Earn” Marks, in a sensitive and somber portrayal by Glover (“Community,” “Girls”), who created the series and wrote the pilot episode. Earn is caught in the push and pull between trying to figure out what kind of life he wants to live and doing what’s expected of him immediately – primarily, getting a steady paycheck to raise his baby girl. He messes up a lot and often disappoints those who love him (his girlfriend, his parents), but we sympathize with his struggle and root for him. Much in the vein of shows like “Louie” and “Girls,” “Atlanta” needs your attention.
