Man arrested in three Charlotte store robberies

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police credit a Crime Stoppers tip with leading to the arrest of a suspect in three store robberies.

Joshua Ervin Bethea, 27, was charged Friday with three counts each of robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault on a female in connection with the robberies.

Bethea was arrested and charged in these cases:

• Shortly after 2 p.m. Aug. 18, a man entered Plaza Express Mart at 6307 The Plaza Road, pretended he was attempting to make a purchase and then assaulted the clerk and took money from the register, police said.

• Shortly after 8:30 p.m. Monday, a man entered the 7-11 at 8101 Old Concord Road in the University area and attempted to purchase an item. When the register opened, the man tried to assault the employee and grabbed money from the register, police said.



• At about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, a man entered the Giant Penny Grocery Store at 3330 The Plaza, assaulted the clerk and took money from the register, police said.



Police released surveillance video of the suspect to the media on Wednesday.

Fuquay-Varina leaders voted Tuesday night to begin negotiations with Wake County to receive the 143-acre property that once was Crooked Creek Golf Course. Earlier in the day, Wake County commissioners voted unanimousily to offer it to the town.
