Steven R. Blackwell “Steve”, 53, passed away Wednesday August 27, 2014 at the Durham VA Medical Center following a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Durham, son of the late Robert L. Blackwell and Marjorie W. Blackwell.
In addition to his mother, Steve is survived by his brother, Robert L. Blackwell, Jr. (Debbe); sister, Suzy Blackwell Waldrop (Tony); and his identical twin brother, Douglas R. Blackwell (Patty). Steve is also survived by a large extended family. He was especially comforted by his two daschunds, Chase and Hanz.
Growing up in Raleigh, Steve attended Wake Co. Schools graduating from Athens Drive High School in 1980. As a youth, Steve loved sports especially basketball, baseball, and golf. He was an avid fan of the NC State Wolfpack and the Atlanta Braves. After high school, Steve served in the United States Coast Guard. As an adult, Steve enjoyed cards and playing pool.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham.
