Earl Conway Mullen “Cookie”, 71, died Thursday, August 28, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Wilmington on August 8, 1943 the son of the late Thomas Earl Mullen and Mary Alice Locklear Mullen. Also remembered is a nephew, Timothy Wynne, who preceded Earl in death.
Earl, known by many as “Cookie”, retired from Lucent Technologies where he was a telecommunications specialist. He loved camping and RVing as well as being an avid photographer. Earl was a quiet and considerate man who loved to help people. He was always willing to take on the role of “local handyman” in his community in addition to dedicating lots of time and energy as an advocate and mentor for young people.
Surviving are his wife, June Gideon Mullen; daughter, Elizabeth Carolyn Mullen, daughter, Alicia Mullen Gregory and husband Wayne and their children, Cameron and Jacob Gregory; sister-in-law, Lisa Gideon and brother-in-law, Brett Messner and their son Dylan; nephew, Edward Foster and his wife Pam and their children, Robert and Jared, nephews Preston Wynne, Shane Truett and his wife Louise, and Joshua Truett and his son, Maxwell; a great-nephew, Cameron Wynne and a great-niece, Kendel Wynne.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Monday, September 1, 2014 in the Mullen Family Cemetery, 1130 Pine Ridge Road, Zebulon, NC.
