Polie Styron Hayes, age 87, died Friday evening in Smithfield Manor. Born November 21, 1926 in Johnston County he was a son of the late Gethro and Repsie Coats Hayes. He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Shirley Barbour; brother, Ted Hayes; sisters, Blanche Lassiter, Ethel McLamb, Neva Barefoot. Polie was a US Army Veteran that proudly served his country in World War II and the Korean War.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Lewis Godwin officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Heights. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday night at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma.
Surviving are his wife, Eloise Wallace Hayes; sons, Robert Hayes and wife Gloria of Smithfield, and Jeff Hayes and wife Melony of Manassas, VA; stepdaughter, Brenda Braswell and husband James of Smithfield; brother, Tommie Hayes of Chesapeake, VA; sisters, Mazie Hayes Williamson of Goldsboro, and Ruewood Hayes Williamson of Smithfield; grandchildren, Jonathan Hayes and wife Jennifer, Taylor Hayes, Joshua Hayes, Annette Jernigan, Lori Myers, Scott Baker, and Tim Baker; and great grandchildren, Emma Hayes, Maegan Myers, Courtney Myers, Brianna Myers, Kirsten Myers, Anthony Jernigan, James Jernigan, Amber Baker, Cory Baker, Kylee Webb, and Mia Grimes.
