Christine Marchuk Nevius died Aug. 30 at Duke Raleigh Hospital after an eight-month fight with cancer.
Christine was born July 12, 1966, in Evergreen Park, Ill., to Anna (Putio) and Michael Marchuk. She was raised in Chicago, where she attended Notre Dame High School. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in Chicago.
Christine graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in journalism and received a masters degree in communications management from Simmons College in Boston.
Christine spent her career at Cambridge Energy Research Associates in Cambridge, Mass., and Vanguard Communications in Washington, D.C. After scleroderma forced her to stop working, she was an active volunteer, most recently serving on the board and as chair of the development committee at Montessori Community School in Chapel Hill.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Alistair Nevius, and one son, Daniel Nevius, of Pittsboro. She is also survived by her brother Jerry and sister-in-law Mary Marchuk and her sister Irene and brother-in-law Bohdan Oleksiuk, and by a niece, three nephews, and four grand nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m., at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Pittsboro, with burial to follow at the church.
