Philip Reed Willmarth, magician, died September 16th, age 83. Phil was a past-President of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, and was, for many years, the editor of the Linking Ring, a magazine for magicians. Phil is the author of numerous magic books and was a magic historian and lecturer. He also owned and operated Willmarth & Associates, a market research firm, until 1998. Phil married his first wife Anne (Sallaway) in 1955; Anne passed away in 1985. Phil married Frances (Robbie) Roberts Gray in 1987. In 1998, they moved from Arlington Heights, IL, where Phil had lived for 39 years, to Durham, NC. Phil is survived by Robbie; his children, Janet Willmarth (Don Hoeg) and John Willmarth (Sharon); Robbie’s children, Eldridge Gray (Kirsten Loft) and Lelia Neil (Todd); and his grandchildren, Annie, Charlie & Jack Hoeg; Jonah & Clara Willmarth; Kyra, Elena, Cornelia & Petersen Gray; and Kathryn & Fuller Neil. A memorial service will be held at Chapel of the Cross Church, 304 E. Franklin St., Chapel Hill, NC 27514 on Friday, September 26th at 1:00 pm. An additional service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon, MI in August 2015.
