Jerry William Linder, 65, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 from complications of ALS. Jerry was born February 16, 1949 in Wake County to the late Thomas William Linder and Evelyn Hill Linder. Jerry graduated from Millbrook High School and Wake Tech. He was a retired Scout Master with Boy Scouts of America Troop 349. For many years he was a baseball umpire for high school and college teams. He was a Highway Maintenance Engineer with NC Department of Transportation and retired with 34 years of service. Jerry will be remembered giving snow reports on TV about the highways in Wake County. Jerry was the recipient of the Occoneechee Council of Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award and also received the NC Order of the Longleaf Pine from the NC Governor’s office.
He is survived by his wife: Peggy Bissette Linder; daughter: Julie Linder of Blounts Creek; sons: Jason Linder (Leigh) of Selma and Jeremy Linder (Katey) of Wendell; 6 grandchildren; sister: Jeannie Linder of Knightdale; niece: Nicole “Nikki” Turnbach and family of Columbia, SC.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 27, 2014 at St. James United Methodist Church, 3808 St. James Church Road, Raleigh, 27604. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, September 26, 2014 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 and other times at the home.
