George R. Scoggins, 70, of Durham passed away Saturday at Hock Family Pavilion, Durham. Born in Durham County, Mr. Scoggins was the son of the late Joe Dow Scoggins and Ruby Alice Gunter Scoggins. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Donna Scoggins; and a sister, Shirley Crouse. Mr. Scoggins retired from Durham Regional Hospital as a HVAC mechanic after 26 years of service.
Mr. Scoggins is survived by two sons, Doug Scoggins and wife Beth, and Greg Scoggins and wife Yvonne; three grandchildren, Grant, Cameron and Lexus; a brother, Don Scoggins and wife Clara; a sister, Dr. Lois Scoggins Self and husband Dr. Robert Self; and a sister-in-law, Betty Jean Bouthillier.
Mr. Scoggins enjoyed going to Emerald Isle with his family, and he loved his dog Bailey. The Scoggins family would like to thank all the caregivers he had throughout his illness.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Clements Funeral Chapel, Durham, with Rev. Elizabeth Michael officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Clements Funeral Home, Durham, and other times at the home of Beth and Doug Scoggins.
Pallbearers will be Brady Sasse, Burt Jennings, Watts Piner, Mike Sinclair, Leon Johnson and Mark Forrest. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Mangum, Barry Buchanan, Mike Spears and Dr. Robert Self.
