Eunice Hill Norton, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 01, 2014 at the SECU Hospice House. Born in Johnston County on May 5, 1921 she was the daughter of the late Millard Vick and Margaret Woodall Hill. Eunice was the widow of William Henry (Bill) Norton who died in 1981 after 40 years of marriage.
Mrs. Norton was a beautician by trade, but her interests spanned many areas. She was a long time active member in the Eastern Star, she was the docent at the Ava Gardner Museum for twelve years, and was known as the ‘butterfly lady”, always wearing and collecting butterfly jewelry and pins. She loved flowers and gardening and birds, always taking care to keep the bird feeders full. Eunice loved her church and her pastor. She sang in the choir and was active in First Baptist Church as long as she was able to attend. Most of all she loved her family, and she insisted on having Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations at her house.
Surviving are her three daughters, Beckie Whitley of Smithfield, Jennie Grimes of Four Oaks, and Bonnie Lee of Smithfield; her sister, Linda Campbell of Smithfield;
seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.
