Charles McKinnon Hensey

Charles McKinnon Hensey 1934 -2014 died at home in Raleigh, NC on October 2nd 2014. Mac was the son of Charles Walter and Sarah of Maxton, NC. Charles grew up in Maxton, NC and graduated from Duke University in 1957 with a Business Administration degree and a Commission as an Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve. He served on active duty in the Mediterranean Sea for two years stationed aboard a mine sweeper and destroyer. After active duty he attended UNC Law School and passed the bar examine in 1962 and started practicing law in Lumberton, NC, where once he had the pleasure of repossessing a poor farmer’s mule. In 1965 he moved to Raleigh to become a member of the State Attorney General’s Staff working primarily with the State Highway Commission. He retired as the Chief Legal Advisor to the NC State Board of Elections. The highlight of his career was arguing a case in front of the United States Supreme Court. Charlie remained active in the US Navy Reserves and retired with the rank of Captain in 1985. He was very active in the Church Library at First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh. He spent his retirement years conducting genealogical research. He is survived by his wife Edna, step-brother Jack (Ann), sons Chuck (Laura) and Walter, and 5 grandchildren.

A time of visitation will be held from 4-6 pm, Sunday October 5, at Brown-Wynne Saint Mary's St. A Memorial service will be held at 1 pm Monday, October 6, 2014 at The First Presbyterian Church 112 S. Salisbury Street Raleigh. The family will receive friends at the Lisa Ham Gathering space following the service.
