Inez Sasser Nickens, widow of Rev. Graham Nickens and daughter of the late Carl and Bertha H. Sasser, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Independence Village in Raleigh. She is survived by a son, Shelton Nickens and wife, Susan of University Park, MD; daughter, Tricia N. Willoughby and husband, Colon of Raleigh; grandchildren, Shannon N. Vetter, Hollis N. Simodynes, Jesse W. Nickens, Elizabeth W. Harrell, and Mary Graham Willoughby; and five great-grandchildren.
Inez and her husband faithfully served United Methodist Churches in the Eastern North Carolina Conference for 37 years. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Goldsboro where she was named Layperson of the Year in 1992. She was a member of the United Methodist Women. Inez also served for many years as a volunteer in the St. Paul Office Guild.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2014 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. James Harry officiating. The family will receive friends Friday following the service in the church parlor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Paul United Methodist Church, 204 E. Chestnut Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
