James Walter Odom, 93, a good and faithful servant, entered heaven's gates Sunday night, October 12, 2014.
A resident of Fuquay-Varina and native of Mount Olive, he was an Army veteran of World War II, and a retired mechanic with E I. duPont Company with 29 years of service.
He is survived by his daughter, Ellen O. Peters and husband, Larry; his son, Douglas Odom, all of Fuquay; a granddaughter, Hayley P. Warren and husband, Eric; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Claire Warren; several nieces and nephews; two sisters in law, Cleo Grady and Mattie Grady, both of the Mount Olive area.
Mr. Odom was preceded in death by his loving wife, Geneva Grady Odom; his parents, Walter R. and Fannie Huffman Odom; two sisters, Tempie Odom and Hazel Odom Brown (who passed away the same day as he); two brothers, Norwood C. Odom and Ray Odom.

Services will be Thursday, October 16, at 7:00 p.m. at Hilltop Free Will Baptist Church, 10212 Fayetteville Road, Fuquay-Varina. Visitation will be at the church during the hour before the service. Graveside committal and interment will be Friday, October 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, 2925 U.S. Hwy. 117 South, Goldsboro. Officiating minister will be the Rev. Jeff Jones.
