Elwood Williams

Mr. Elwood Williams, 67, of Dunn died Thursday afternoon at his residence. He was born in Cumberland County on April 20, 1947. He was preceded in death by his father Herman Elwood Williams and a brother-in-law, Larry Carroll.

Elwood graduated from Central High School in Fayetteville in 1965. He received his degree in Heating and Air from Fayetteville Technical Institute in 1967, and worked with Bass Heating and Air. He was a co-owner of City Heating and Air before managing Clinton Heating and Air. In 1981 Elwood opened Corner Climate and operated it until 2014.

He was a very active member of Mingo Baptist Church where he held many positions.

A funeral service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Mingo Baptist Church by Rev. Louis Strickland. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Betsy Carroll Williams of Dunn, his mother, Mary Alice Black Williams of Wade, a sister, Diane Murphy and husband David of Wade, a sister-in-law, Gloria Carroll of Dunn, nieces and nephews, Jody Murphy of Wade, Meredith Williams of Stedman, Dean Carroll of Raleigh, and Karen Beam Browne of Dunn.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home and other times at his home. Memorials may be made to Mingo Baptist Church, 1465 Mingo Church Rd. Dunn, NC 28334.
