Martha Anne Harper Nimmo

Ms. Martha Anne Harper Nimmo, 84, died Sunday October 19, 2014, at her West Harper Street home in Snow Hill. A native of Greene County, she was born May 10, 1930, the daughter of Dr. J.H. and Emma Sloan Robinson Harper. Following graduation from Salem Academy in Winston-Salem, she completed her secondary education at Randolph Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Ms. Nimmo was a teacher by profession and retired from the Greene County Public Schools. She was a lifelong resident of Snow Hill having an immense knowledge of its history and had served her community as a Town Commissioner for multiple terms. She was an active member of Calvary Memorial United Methodist Church where she faithfully attended until recently when her health began to decline.

Ms. Nimmo is survived by her sons, Bobby Nimmo and wife, Mary Jo and Bert Nimmo, all of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Banks Nimmo of Wilson and Anne Wade Nimmo of Snow Hill; and a brother, Dr. James R. “Buddy” Harper and wife, Ferrell Ann of Pinehurst.

A service celebrating Ms. Nimmo’s life will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, October 22, at Calvary Memorial United Methodist Church. The family extends an invitation to those attending to join them immediately following the service for a reception at Ms. Nimmo’s home. A Committal Service will be held separately at the historic St. Barnabas Cemetery.
