Edward Warren Spencer

Edward Warren Spencer, 92, of Gettysburg, PA passed away Monday, October 20, 2014 at the Golden Living Center. He was born Easter Sunday April 16, 1922 in Swan Quarter, NC to the late Edward Branch and Ora (Carawan) Spencer. He was the loving husband of June (Haynes) Suddeth Spencer.

Growing up he enjoyed hunting and fishing. After graduating from high school he joined the US Navy and made the invasions of North Africa and Okinawa during World War II. He retired from the National Bureau of Standards in Gaithersburg, MD and moved to Morehead City, NC where he enjoyed deep sea fishing and wood crafts. He moved to Gettysburg, PA in 1997.

Mr. Spence was a member of the Masons for 63 years, Patuxent Lodge #28 (formerly Seat Pleasant), as well as the Sudan Temple Shrine in North Carolina, the Scottish Rite, American Legion, Eagles, VFW, Elks, AARP, and NAFRE. He was a Methodist.

In addition to his wife Edward is survived by three sons, John W. Spencer and his wife Jessica, of Wilmington, DE, Douglas E. Spencer and his wife Sonya, of Frederick, MD, Mark A. Spencer and his wife Myra, of Frederick, MD, two step-sons, Thomas A. Suddeth, of Mercersburg, PA, Dr. James N. Suddeth and his wife Lisa, of Beach Haven, NJ, six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and sister, Rosetta Mayo and her husband Billy, of Washington, DC. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marion DiSabella Spencer and his brother, Branch Allen Spencer.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA with Rev. Jay Zimmerman officiating.
