Charles Wesley Carter, III RPh.

Mr. Charles Wesley Carter, III, RPh., 72, died Monday, October 20, 2014.

The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 a.m. St. James United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.

Mr. Carter was born to Charles W. Carter, Jr. and Mary Seymour Carter on September 27, 1942 in Suffolk, VA. He grew up in Sanford, NC, where his mother taught high school history and started the honor society, still named for her.

He excelled academically and worked at Jonesboro Lee Drug Store while in high school and college. After graduating from the Pharmacy School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1965, he married Sheri McCormick, his high school sweetheart and moved to Greenville. He served briefly in the United States Navy after graduating from Officer’s Candidate School in Newport, RI. He then returned to Greenville, NC, where he practiced pharmacy for more than 50 years. He was a man of deep faith and worked for love of animals. He also served his community through the Masons, Shriners, and the JayCees.

“Buzz” and Sheri were blessed with two boys, Christopher Forbes Carter, who preceded him in death in 2004, and Brad Carter and wife, Renee; their beautiful daughters, Caroline Elizabeth and Christine Forbes, who Granddad and Grammy loved dearly and his four-legged grandchild, a black lab named Escapee, who never left his side.

Buzz is also survived by a sister, Elaine Carter Gibson and husband, Harry, of Cary, NC; “Uncle Buzz” has a niece, Martha Anderson and husband, Brian, and their two boys, Trey and Colby; Nephew, Jay Gibson and wife, Jill, and their boys, Andrew, Will, James, and Jake, all of Apex.

The family will receive friends Wednesday 6 to 8 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
