Frederick John Grasso passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Raleigh, NC on Tuesday October 21, 2014 at the age of 86. He was born in Leominster, MA on November 13, 1927 to the late parents Vincenzo and Lucia Scarale Grasso. He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 43 years, Marie Brideau Grasso, sister Lena Gelinas of Spokane, WA, his daughters: Karen Lundberg and husband Eric, Debbie Kane, Laurie Caisse and husband Chris, sons: Michael and Frederick Grasso Jr, John Erickson and wife Amy, granddaughters: Jennifer Monahan and husband Matt, Jessica Ehnstrom and husband James, Katie Caisse, Ember, Ella, and Susan Erickson, grandsons: Kurt and Kyle Caisse, Tyler Schryver and wife Caitlin, Ben Erickson, Jason Grasso, great-granddaughters: Grace Monahan and Abigail Ehnstrom, great-grandsons: Jack Monahan and Anthony Grasso, loving in laws and several nieces and nephews.
Fred was a WWII US Navy Veteran who served as a Seaman First Class on the USS Independence where he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal. He attended Worcester Jr. College and received a Business School Accounting Degree. He had retired with a distinguished Civil Service Career of over 35 years out of Fort Devens, MA. He was a life-long member of the Leominster Lodge of Elks and served as an Exalted Ruler. Grampy enjoyed retirement, spending time with his family, traveling, cooking, gardening and never saying no to his grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife Shirley Lancey Grasso, son Vincent Grasso a Vietnam Marine Corp Veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart, and his sister Ann Dennis.
A private service for the family will be held on Cape Cod, MA in November. Memorial contributions can be made in his honor to Military Missions in Action: Attention Mike Dorman 411-B North Judd Park Way, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.
