Mr. Joseph Earl Sermons, 87, died Wednesday, October 22, 2014.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Marlboro Free Will Baptist Church. Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. in the fellowship hall prior to the service.
Mr. Sermons was born to William Herring Sermons and Ila Dell Puryear on September 1, 1927, in Farmville, N.C., where he was a lifelong farmer and avid fisherman. He was a Supervisor for the N.C. Association of Soil and Water Conservation District for twenty years.
Mr. Sermons was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara Mooring, brother William Arthur Sermons, and Lillie Mae Sermons, his wife of 45 years.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Avery Sermons; and four children, Ila Doby and husband Wiley, William Earl Sermons and wife Donna, Kenneth Sermons and wife Peggy, and Jo Ann Lang and husband Scott; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step daughters, Eve Jones, Shelby Bryan, and Rhonda Forrest; two step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
