A proposed Love’s truck stop moved closer to opening near Interstate 40 Exit 154 in Statesville, after an Iredell County judge ruled against an appeal filed by the project’s opponents.
Superior Court Judge Tanya Wallace upheld a Statesville Board of Adjustment ruling in May that affirmed Planning Director David Currier’s decision to allow truck stops on land zoned highway business.
Once the decision is formally issued, opponents will have 30 days to appeal to the N.C. Court of Appeals.
Bobby Sullivan, the lawyer for the opponents, told the Observer on Friday that an appeal is planned. Opponents contend truck stops aren’t appropriate for the city’s highway business zoning district.
