Jack Manly Hunter, age 84, died November 2, 2014. He was the youngest child of his predeceased parents Ethel Berryman Hunter and Hugh Reaves Hunter.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Holt Hunter, son Michael and daughter-in-law Sue, daughter Yvonne Gale and son-in-law Don, and three grandsons Kenneth Gale, Jeremy and Zachary Hunter. He is also survived by his sister Linda Draughan and is predeceased by his sisters Elva Hunter Kennedy, Bancy Hunter Uzzell, and Hilda Hunter. He is predeceased by his brothers Stanford R. Hunter, Lewis C. Hunter, R. Harold Hunter, Ralph B. Hunter, and J. Ray Hunter.
Reverend Hunter was an alumnus of Louisburg College and Methodist College. He was also a graduate of the Methodist Conference’s Pastor School of Duke University. Serving as a Methodist minister in the Eastern Conference for 43 years, Reverend Hunter’s appointments included Harlowe-Oak Grove, Fayetteville, Stedman, Durham, and Farmville.
Big Jack, as he was fondly called by his family, was known for his keen sense of humor, his love of sports and traveling, and his deep compassion for his parishioners.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 4 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Miller Boles Funeral Home located at 1150 Fire Tower Road in Sanford, NC. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 5 at 1pm at St Luke’s United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Broadway Cemetery, Broadway, NC.
