O.C. Pennington, Jr., a native of Raleigh died Sunday. He was the only child of the late Olive Cromwell Pennington, Sr. and Bertha Oldham Pennington Lloyd.
He graduated from Broughton High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He retired as a Captain from the U.S. Air Force. After graduating from UNC, O.C. went into business with his father at Pennington Smith Funeral Home in Raleigh. In 1972 he merged with Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, where he was Vice-President until his retirement in 2004.
O.C. was a funeral director for more than 50 years. He loved his work, and helping each family he served.
He was a member of Christ Church, where he was a former Vestryman and Junior Warden. He was a former member of the Rotary Club of Raleigh, Past President Haven House, Past President of the Exchange Club of North Raleigh, Past President of the Historic Districts Commission, and Board Member of Interact.

He also enjoyed his membership and time spent at Carolina Country Club, the Sphinx Club, Cotillion Club, Circle Club, Assembly Club, and the Saint Christopher’s Club.
In additional to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kinna Gordon Pennington.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Harper Pennington; his son Bryan Cromwell Pennington, and his wife Dr. Elizabeth Ferguson Pennington, and his two grandsons Bryan Cromwell Pennington, Jr, and John Harper Pennington, all of Raleigh.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 12th at Christ Church, 120 E. Edenton Street in Raleigh, with a reception to follow in the church parish hall. Burial will be held following the reception at Oakwood Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Mayview for their care and concern while O.C. was a patient, particularly Wanda and her staff.
