Mildred Copeland Jenkins

Mildred Copeland Jenkins, 90, passed away on November 9, 2014. She spent most of her married life in Potecasi, North Carolina. In 2002 she and her husband, Clyde, who predeceased her, made their home in Magnolia Glen Senior Living Community in Raleigh, NC. She enjoyed her 12 years at Magnolia Glen. The family is very grateful for the wonderful staff, friends, and residents for their care, community, and love.

Mrs. Jenkins graduated from Perquimans County High School and East Carolina University. She taught school at Woodland-Olney School, Woodland, NC and later worked as the Home Economics Extension Agent in Northampton County nurturing many 4-H members to attain great goals in life. She had a special interest in Pine Forest Rest Home in Potecasi and served on the Board of Directors for many years. She was a member of Potecasi Baptist Church serving as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Treasurer, Director of the WMU, and a member of many committees.

Mrs. Jenkins is survived by her daughter, Connie Baker, and Connie’s husband Roger of Raleigh and her son, Arthur Jenkins, and his wife, Kay, of Charleston, SC. She is survived by four grandchildren; Scott Baker and wife, Marlo of Apex; Susan Kosik and husband, Keith, of Seattle, WA; Kate Jenkins and Lawson Jenkins of Charleston, SC; and great-grandchildren Kameron and Kolton Kosik and Nathan Baker. She is also survived by her brothers; Willard Copeland and wife, Christine, of Hertford, NC and Parker Copeland and wife, Barbara, of Elizabeth City, NC.

The family expresses its heartfelt thanks and prayers to the faithful members of Potecasi Baptist Church, Crabtree Valley Baptist Church, her physician Dr. Steven Leibowitz and for her loving and faithful caregivers Janice, Cathy, Patricia, Zuwena, and Karen.

The family will receive friends at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Rich Square, NC on Wednesday, November 12 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 13 at 11:00AM at Potecasi Baptist Church, Potecasi, NC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers are welcome and memorial contributions may be made to Pine Forest Rest Home, PO Box 67, Potecasi, NC 27867, Potecasi Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 8, Potecasi, NC 27867, or Transitions Hospice Care of Wake County.

A memorial service will be held at Magnolia Glen Senior Living Community, Raleigh on Friday, November 14 at 2:00PM.
