Mr. Raymond “Pete” France, 88, died Sunday afternoon, November 9, 2014. A native of Benham, Kentucky, he was born May 1, 1926, the son of Oscar and Vivian Norvell France. Mr. France began his military career with the US Navy and later entered the US Air Force where he served until retirement. His career included tours of duty in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. A Bronze Star recipient, he received his medal in a pinning ceremony performed by President Lyndon Johnson. His strong belief in community and fellow man was further exemplified by his 50 year membership as a Mason, the Scottish Rite and in the Snow Hill Presbyterian Church.
Graveside Services will be held 10 AM Thursday, November 13, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Pastor Scott Hardy officiating.
Mr. France is survived by his wife, Bettie Doby France of Snow Hill; daughters, Patricia France MacNeill and husband, Jim of Snow Hill, and Terry Lynne Cowan and husband, Cecil of Casper, Wyoming; and a grandchild, Raymond Bradley Cowan of Chicago, Illinois.
The family will receive friends on Thursday at the graveside immediately following the service and other times at the France residence in Snow Hill.
