William Sidney Thames, Sr., born October 31, 1941, passed away November 8, 2014.
He was a native of Raleigh. He attended Daniels Middle School, Broughton High School, and North Carolina State University. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant from Officer Candidate School at Fort Sill, OK. He worked as a civil engineer with the NC D.O.T. Department of Structure Design. He retired in 2007 after 37 years of service.
He was predeceased by his parents, David Thames, Sr. and Lucille Thames, and his brother David Thames, Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years Louise Britt Thames, his three sons Sidney Thames II of Raleigh, Chris Thames (Susan) of Williamsburg, VA., and Shawn Thames of Aldie, VA. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren David Thames II and Kaylee Thames, sister Mary Gooden (Dewitt) of Florence, SC, sister-in-law June Thames of Raleigh, sister-in-law Barbara Ruhl (Michael) of Columbia, SC and special aunt Joann Mauriello of Charleston, SC. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was an exceptional family man doting on his wife Louise, his sons, and their families. The family will fondly remember many happy vacations at their cottage on Oak Island.

A visitation will be held from 10-11 am Wednesday November 12, 2014 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home 300 Saint Mary's St. Raleigh, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. A burial will follow at Historic Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh.
